colt coral :(

I have a colt coral. He has never looked as good as it should. Always seems shriveled up. Thought it was because of my lighting.. but now i saw this today after removing ALOT of bio balls. It looks as if it were cut at one time but it also looks like it just rotting away. I rubbed the area and it was "mushy"
What should i do?

Tank Params are good last time i checked.
ph 8.6-8
ammonia 0
nitrite >.025
trate was 20 (stupid bio balls')
calcium 400's
kh mmm dont remember, high end of okay
waer changes weekly 20 gallons

you might want to remove the bioballs completly from the system.
i wouls not remove all at once. a little at a time if you can.

with the colt. you might want to frag it out to get rid of the bad or rotting area. you could try and cut out the bad area, but you will have to keep a eye on it then..

You might try dipping the coral in an Iodine dip, maybe try gently brushing away the tissue that is sloughing off around the wound site. If it continues to spread then you may have to cut it away from the healty part.
IME colts are pretty tough and should attach easily if you frag it

The bio balls may contribute to elevated nitrates over time , but you need to do a water change and siphon or remove that muck, thats feeding your high levels

just so you know,, that muck was what was left AFTER i REmoved the bio balls. NExt up is the CC.. another big project im not looking forward to.

Iodine dip? like iodine i would put on a cut on my finger?

dip the whole thing in a cup or so or just rubb that area with a q tip?
After i dip or rub can i just put it back in the tank?
