Colt Coral

I am sure I read about this at some point, but can't remember and / or find it now.
Will trimming my colt tree corals in the tank, kill pulsing xinia(sp).

Everytime I trim them, they secrete a clear fluid, and it appears to kill any xinia that it comes in contact with!
They don't die right away, but they will after a couple of weeks.
Would carbon help?

yes carbon would help, & movng the colt a little away from the xenia while fragging would also, leathers are extremly toxic so carbon is needed to even keep other corals healthy in the same system.

removing the colt from the tank to frag it and then rinse it before returning is the best option

I used to run carbon 24/7 and never had any issues, I quit when I went BB, but I will start again.

The only problem with removal is that they are attached to some very large rocks at the bottom of the pile,

you could also run a small siphon hose as you cut them to remove the majority of it before it hits anything in concentration or gets dispersed into the water column

thats what I do, plus the carbon. No problems yet.

use a net to catch the slime as you trim them.
