colored sand
Can I use some of the crayola colored sand in my tank?
I'm just curious. It is so pretty, but it seems like the color would come off.

I would not use anything like that for a number of reasons.

I don't know about poisining the tank, but I don't think it would look very good,.. they do make some black reef sand though if you are looking for something different.

Depends what it is made of. Most likely its stuff you don't want in your tank.

Okay
I really want to just add some more white sand. I have taken so much out with W/C in the past.
Thanks,

If it's a crushed glass product, then it could possibly work since it's non-reactive. A dyed sand would be a definite no go.

yeah, stay away from dyed sand. They sell black/white or all black sand that looks spectacular and is aragonite.

To the best of my knowledge all aragonite sand is white (same composition as LR)

colored sand
I saw that sand too and thought of the same thing, the only thing that it says on the bag is that it's "non-toxic". Why wouldn't it be good to put in a saltwater tank? Would it kill my clownfish and reef? Just curious. I've found the black sand and they also sell the blue aragonite, would I be safe using that? thanks.

This thread is old but I am bringing it back to life. I saw the Crayola sand in Walmart. Has anybody tried checking it to see what it is? Whether its crushed glass, silica, or what it is?

I know Tom was talking about a brand of sand at Walmart and this may be it. Not sure what I will do with a bag if it isn't safe.
Note to self: San Jose Walmart.
