blue...I think blue looks the best when coralline start to grow on the back. Also, I think blue makes the tank look larger than a black background does.

Another idea is to get it clear and ask for another piece, same size as the back, and place it against the back of your tank. Thuis way if you dont like it you can change it!

i also prefer black on reef systems. i do think that blue makes fish stand out though. blue works well for FOWLR.

Many people like the black but I prefer the blue - more natural looking to me. I'd get it clear and use the backrounds you buy on a roll. If you don't like one colour you can change it

Best Of Both Worlds

I have a background that goes from a kinda dark blue to black. I like it a lot.

I like blue also, just because it looks a little more natural to me, more like what you see diving on a shallow reef. What I've thought would look cool, is if you could get someone with some artistic talent to spray paint a sunlight starburst pattern in a blue background. I saw a guy in Cozumel one time doing paintings on canvas with spray paints, and he did an underwater reef scene with rays of sunlight streaming through the water. Now, if I could get him to do that on the back of a tank...
