Cold Cathode moonlight?
I have been looking at cold cathode lighting for my reef tank.......just for a moon light. Havent decided yet. I used to run LEDS for cars over my tank......and they worked awesome. But I would like to experiment a little more. The ones im looking at are UV Cold Cathode....which may pose a problem...or will they?

Not sure what the deal is with Cold Cathode, and the website doesn't really give any tech specs re: wave length of the "UV" light, it appears to excite flouresence, but it would be nice to know exactly what wave length it operates in, UV can be damaging to organisms, and this stuff all seems to be frosting for tricked out puter cases.

Funny I just installed a pair of CC lights as moon lights on my daughters 24AP yesterday...I've used the car LED's too...honestly the color and intensity is about the same...I think I like the LED's better as they have more shimmer.

Thanks Jnicho. I will probably stick with the Car LEDS then. Two strips and an inverter is only like 25 bucks... I was going to get the Aquamedic moonlight....but its discontinued and no one has it. It looked like the coolest one out of them all.

...and you don't have to "buy" an AC/DC adapter...if you have any old answering machines, cordless phones, etc. laying around the AC/DC adapters on those work great...9v-12v works fine...I actually prefer the 9v ones.

is that really safe to use any ole transformer (9v - 12v) to power it ...i have plenty of those laying around
would it be smart to put an inline fuse in there?
why do you prefer the 9v?

The 9v will be a little dimmer. It just depends on how dim or how bright you want your moon lights. just preference.

sorry i kinda jacked the thread ....but since the damage is done
anyone think that the strips are too much light for moon lights?
....i have to leds in my 36" fixture that are perfect for the 30g but i had 2 leds in my 48" 55g old fixture and you could only see them if you looked up at the light
