people dont think kelp reefs are real reefs, so California fish are just as interersting as tropical fish are being neglected

which fish specifically are you refering to? I'm in the process of putting up a new tank and would be interested in having something different it in.

Cheers...Michael

The fish in the kelp forest are pretty, but everything is pretty big. The species run from surf perches at the small size along with a bunch of bass around the one foot range or a bit bigger to large sheephead and ling cod. There are halibut, some small sharks and rays, and sculpin that hurt when they sting you (I know from personal exp). The rest of the mix is various rockfish, our state Garibaldi and sea lions to eat your catch.

For all of you divers you just have to hit the kelp forest in La Jolla or Monterey once for a unique experience.

Thanks for the info the Garibaldi is a beautful fish. I didn't know that it was California's state fish.

Cheers...Michael

california fish tend to get VERY large & won't do well in our tanks, the water here is vry cold, you need temps in the mid sixties, so a chiller would be a must

...shame on you guys who have catalina gobiies in your reefs
