Cmas present look at it.
My best friend, brother, and my wife went in on my Cmas present this year. It is a used 400. It measures 132" long (10ft 10 in), 27" tall, and 26" front to back. The guy that sold it to us had it custom built 6 years ago. It has 1/2" thick glass on the front, back, and ends. It has a 3/4" thick bottom, is eurobraced, has 3 large glass front to back braces (like an Oceanic), and has 2 1/2" glass plates siliconed into all the corners for additional strength. The guy we got it from said it weighs between 800 and 1000 lbs and takes 6-8 strong people to move it. He raised african cichlids but wants a taller show tank so he sold this one to us. It has never had any medication in it. We may be moving in the summer so it'll be stored at my brothers house until we get moved. This pic has the cichlids in it still but it is now empty and being picked up this week by several friends of mine. Oh yeah the tank is 540 miles away from my house (in FL in my hometown) so if we don't move that presents a few additional challenges too.

Depending on how much diy (stand, and canopy) and which lighting setup and other misc equipment. I'm thinking probably around $3,000 in equipment before I can add water using mostly used stuff. I am thinking about a used 75-125 gal glass tank for the sump drilled for external pumps. 3-5 250 watt hqi's and 8 5ft vho's for lighting (if I go with 3 hqis then the ends of the tank could be used for lower light corals with only vho lighting there.) Not really sure about pumps yet. Mr-3 skimmer or add an Mr-2 to the Mr-1 I already have. I can use my current kalk reactor and auto top-off. I can't believe my wife went along with this. She told me after they showed me the tank at the guy's house that she and my best friend were on the phone long distance with her running around the house with a tape measure looking for a suitable 11 ft wall. (there is only one in the house we can get the tank to, it kinda sucks that it won't go around a corner in the house) I have ~250 lbs of lr in my current tank and I think I'll probably need another 250-400 lbs of base rock to make it look decent. After setup water I think I'll aquascape the middle with my current tank stuff then work my way toward the ends adding rock and corals. This is a recent pic of my current tank. I'm hoping to coordinate the move back toward our hometown and the setup of the new tank at the same time.

Isn't it great to think about? (: My wife said after this I can't buy anything else that uses electricity because we're gonna be really hating the bill from this tank alone.

water and tank alone around 4400lbs or about the same as a mid-sized suv. Then we'll add some sand, lots of rock, and lots of equipment, a heavy stand and canopy. The grand total on a 11' X 26" footprint will probably be around 6,000 lbs. (3 tons has a nice ring to it doesn't it?)

That thing is a beast. its way cool. Its going on the 3rd floor right. And you will need SCUBA gear for cleaning. And even way cool you can have a nurse shark in there for a good 2 years. then you'll just have to upgrade to a 3,000.....

I was looking at Ampmasters earlier today and think a couple of 3000's should be more than enough for the return and closed loop. I got to thinking that 50 gpm is a lot of water going through a sump and I wonder if I should put most of the flow in the cls and get a 1,000-2,000 gph pump for the return pump. I was at Lowe's today and they have pool pumps but I don't know if they would hold up and be safe for a saltwater environment. Anyone know? They don't have flow rates in gpm or gph but they kinda look like my 5hp spa pumps and they kick out a lot of water and heat.
