Club fund raisers

What kind of club fund raisers do you guys have at your local reef club?

We are trying to think of some for ours.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

We had a member with an old tank laying around and we raffled that off.

We usually have a coral of the month. We try to get the shop that is hosting the meeting to either donate the coral, or give it to the club at cost, and then we sell the frags for about $10 each or per polyp depending on the coral. Last month was Duncans for $10 per polyp.

We also have sponsors that donate food, additives, and equipment that we sell raffle tickets for. Sometimes members will have tanks and other things they no longer want and we can raffle those off as well.

The only other way is through the membership charges, but at $10 per person for the year, and only $5 if they sign up after June, you will not make much on that deal.

We do a big frag swap each fall. We also have small raffles at some of the monthly meetings. We do big raffle at our speakers event each spring.

So far we have a 20 dollar er year membership fee, but that covers the website and 4-5 frags at the frag demonstration. Like last week I got a War coral and a encrusting Monti frag. We also had a large colony bought at cost that had a silent raffle for a frag ($20 minimum bid). I was just curious what everybody else did. We also have a buy in oker tournament for frags. Our club is relatively new and small.

We have auctions with corals and fish for sale. Members pay an annual fee and get the tickets to the auction at a discount. Non members pay more for the tickets to the auction. The local dealers buy tables at the auctions. At these tables the dealers have the items they intend to auction up for display. People and sponsors donate items for a raffle. Theirs also a donation box and people are asked to donate at the end of the night. They also sell cakes and drinks.
