Clown vs. watchman

I was trying to decide between two fish for my tank. I was wondering what peoples opinions were on the yellow watchman goby and the yellow clown goby. Any input would be nice, pros and cons especially.

My only experience is with the clowns, who have an affinity for ending up in the overflow. They can get right through the teeth and on to the sump. My sump is all open with no baffles so this isn't an ideal situation. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has had this happen with them. Others can give you more advice, esp on the watchman which I haven't had in my tank.

I would say the Yellow watchman Is a much more entertaining Fish.. you can also get a pistol shrimp and they make a very interesting bond.. Gotta love my Watchman.. His name is Sunny LOL..

My yellow watchman is Obi Won the Goby

Watchman stays near the bottom - will pick a hidey hole rather like a doghouse. The clown goby will be all over the place, and yes, they have a penchant for getting into trouble but they are great little fish. They will perch in Acroporas, leather corals... too cute.

Tough choice... I like 'em both.

I have a watchman in my seahorse tank. He is so good at hiding that for over a month I thought he was dead and gone. Then, there he was. He is very skiddish and hides whenever he hears me approach the tank. I only see him if I remain still for a while until he thinks the coast is clear.

Maybe if I got him a pistol shrimp he would get more brave.

I have had plus do have these fish.

Well I had a yellow watchman and he was a neat fish picked out a cave that was facing the front of the tank so I could almost always see him. However he was afraid of almost everything, especially cleaner shrimp. Well I guess I only had him about a month and one day he was breathing heavy on just one side of his gills. I think he must have darted and hit a rock or something.
Died in the next couple days.

I have a yellow clown goby now.
I chose this fish mainly because my tank is small and he is small and because I had orange and purple fish already. This fish is pretty tiny. The last fish I added to my tank. Luckily no aggretion was shown and the little guy is doing fine. He has almost no fear of anyone and is ignored by all his tankmates.

I like the clown goby because he doesn't hide he out front and center all the time but the watchman was really fun to watch.

So I guess depending on tank size and any hazards could play a role in the clown doing well.

HTH somewhat
my experiences
good luck

Piglet, our yellow watchman goby, is our favorite fish out of four tanks. He is just so entertaining and personable and eats huge chunks of frozen.
