Question

Clown Tangs? Worth Buying?

The LFS has a really nice looking Clown tang. He looks very healthy, but all Ive read is bad news about these fish. Should I buy him? Anyone had any luck with them good or bad?

Tangs can be hard or they can be easy. You want to have the right tank for the fish. One thing that can make them hard is that they can get ich very easy and thats why you want the right tank for them. They need a good size tank. I like the look of the fish a lot. what size tank do you have? Some info on the tang. http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_...cfm?pCatId=340

Its a 72g bowfront with say about a 7 gal refugium built in front of the old wet/dry skimmer combo. I currently have flame angel, blue devil damsel, pair of true percula's, lawnmower blenny, and sixline wrasse.

I would not recommend any tang for a tank less than 6 foor long 125+ gallon tank. Af far as clown tangs in general, they can be a hand full, and can be very hard on other fish, so make sure that it is a healthy one that is introduced as one of the last inhabitants of the tank. They are a wonderful fish if you can get a healthy one though, but they can be MEAN!

That fish will outgrow your tank and they can be very territorial

If you read the info it looks like it should have a 150gal or larger and they say they can be hard to keep. I like the fish but it might be to big for your tank. I would pass if it was my tank. If you had a 150 I would say go for it. Just my .02
