clown tang - Acanthurus lineatus - HELP!

I ordered a naso tang but received a juvenile clown tang instead. After looking into it a little, I see warnings about it being very hard to keep. It looks healthy but hasn’t come out from under the rock yet. I have a 180 gallon reef with:

2.5 ppm nitrates
8.4 PH
79 degf
35 ppm salinity

Any tips on feeding, care, etc?

Thanks,

Bill

it and my juvi powder blue have been in there for 24 hours now. the blue comes out breifly every once in a while but the clown hasn't budged more than four inches from the spot it is hiding under. have lots of nori and other macro algee from my refugium but they are still too scared to eat. both look healthy, nice colors and fins.

thanks for the replies.

Hi Bill;

How is the clown tang doing now? Hope all is well.

My experience with mail order is limited; what recourse do you have considering this is not the fish you ordered? Can you get a credit? Then maybe trade it at the LFS?

Clown tangs are good looking fish but they don't have a good survival rate and are typically pretty onery if they do get larger. Of course, different fish have different temperments, my big Maroon clown is not at all aggressive....

What a predicament, Bill!

a friend picked him out from a wholesaler when what i wanted wasn't available. so, i don't really have a choice. next time i'll get my fish myself! he looks really great but hasn't come out from under the rock yet. even when my arrow crab tried to nab him. the arrow crab has got to go!
