Question

Clown question

I am contemplating getting a Sebae or Percula. I am afraid if it calls my torch or long tentacle plate home it will keep them from opening up and feeding properly. I am not really interested in getting an anemone because of their poor life expectancy and the chaos they can create. Should I just forget the clown and keep my corals happy or will the clown not effect the corals if it lives in them?

Don't know much about the whole coral/clown relationship. I have 2 false Perculas and 1 tomato clown. The tomato clown loves my sebae anemone.... Bottom line I love my clowns and wouldn't trade them for the WORLD!! They have great personalities, are hardy, totally reef safe, and great fish in general.

A clown will host with whatever they wish to host with. I have seen clowns host with torches before. Most corals, (not always), will get accustomed to having the clown host with them, and they will remain open. My toadstool hated my clowns at first, and wouldn't open. Now, the clowns play in the toadstool (along with my tang and clown goby), and the toadstook remains open and happy. I would say that it is safe to get a clown.

I have two false Perculas in my tank and I just love them. They have a great personality. They are like little puppy dogs. Mine love to ride the current of the return.

My false percs host the powerhead and occasionally the pre-skimmer box for my protien skimmer.

My suggestion is forget the clown

2 things.

I have lost 2 long tentical plate corals to my clown. They are too delicate for a clown. Although a Percula would be the more gental of the 2 in question. Saebae's generally get big and rowdy.

As fungia are so delicate. I would suggest staying from a clown. I wish I had kept them in a seperate tank, I just loved my plate corals.

good luck and happy reefing!
