Clown Fish Help....Please

Ok, I don't know if this is going to be easy to explain. My clown looks like is sheading or pealing. It doesn't look like a parasite or worm alomost looks like he has sunburn and is pealing. It looks like white slime coming off of him, half on half off. My tank is going on it's six week this Sat. I turned off my UV light 2 days ago, long story. Anyways, I gave the clown fish a freash water dip for about a min. He's still kicking but looks like theres still alittle more. Has anyone seen this or heard of this before. Please help.

Thanks

Could Be...

Well, fish shed their slime coat for a variety of reasons.

Before we get into that.

What is the Tank Temp and what has it been recently?

What are the Nirtrates, Ammonia, etc.

What is the Salinity at?

Have you added anything recently?

What else is in the tank?

Why are the lights off?

Have you medicated it with anything?

Was there anything funny looking about the clown when you purchased it?

How did you cycle the tank? Live rock, damsels, other?

----------------

It could be velvet? Or Ocidieum (spelling?)

Could be stress only.

6 weeks is a very new tank. might have not been ready for a fish depending on how you cycled and how much you feed.

Anwser the questions above and we;ll do our best to help you out.

do some research on amyloodinium and brooklynella (sp?). you should remove him to a quarantine tank and treat there. (check the disease forum here and on other boards and/or use a search engine like google.com. sorry i dont have any direct links available to me here at work).

Sounds like brooklynella (clownfish disease) smaller chance it might be amylo (marine velvet) - heres a link which describes both diseases as well as teatment plan - when fish get to the stage your talking about prognosis is not good.

Thanks to eveyone quick responces It did turn out to be Velvet. The bad news is I lost the clown fish this morning . But now at least I know what I have and how to treat it. I should have never kept my UV light off for 3 days, I think thats what caused it. It's back on now so hopefully it will kill the parasites.

Sorry bout the loss of your fish
