Clown fish breeding tank setup

My clowns spawned yesterday.... and it hit me. "I could get some money off these clowns! " so I have this 29 gallon tank in the basement that used to be a freshwater tank before i switched to salt water. So I was wondering if/how I could turn it into a breeding tank. Im just curious on how to do it, and probably wont do it for a while. I just like to plan in advance, so if I do decide to do it, Il know what equipment to buy, and how to set it up.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't even attempt it without reading this book first. http://www.amazon.com/Clownfishes-Ca.../dp/1890087041

I also wouldn't attempt it if your only goal is money. The work and financial investment involved is typically greater than the money you receive from the sale of the fish. If you want to do it out of your love of the hobby, then go for it. I'm sure you would enjoy watching the little ones as they grow up.

Its not just for the money. i love clown fish, and getting the experience of breeding them, is just cool. Both of my clowns are what I call chocolate clowns, a mix between black perc, and regular orange perc. I bought them at 45 bucks each, so im sure that they will bring in a respectable amount of money. But i will probably invest it in more corals for my tank/a bigger tank .

Ok, so basically what im reading is this..
  1. breed rotifers
    • fill 5 gallon bucket with salt water
    • put airstone in
    • put in rotifers and rotifer food
    • wait 3 days
    • filter out 1/3 of water with coffe filter every day (butting filtered water back into 5 gallon bucket)
    • every week, change out 2 gallons of water
  2. siphon out fry into a seperate tank/ place the rock with the eggs in the breeding tank
  3. place new rotfers in tank every day
  4. when they begin metamorphasis, begin feeding them brine

now what equipment should i include in the breeding tank??

First you will need to raise some Phytoplankton, then feed the phyto to the rots, then feed the rots to the baby clowns.

It sounds like you have ocellaris, not perc's. Do you have any pic's?

The price of ocellaris and perc's has gone down quite a bit. Thanks to Sustainable Aquatics. Clowns that were once $100 are now going for $20 or $30. I'm not trying to discourage you. I hope you do this. It should be a great experience. Just don't be looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It can be real hard to find buyers for clowns. Check out this thread. He was only asking $8.00 and couldn't find buyers. http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f1...le-117193.html

Those are ocellaris. A sweet pair of captive bred ocellaris.
