Closed Loop Manifold PLEASE HELP!

I have decided to build a Closed Loop Manifold but have a question about how (where) I will draw the water from.I guess my question is would there be any problem with putting my inlet right in my overflow???? The reason I ask is there is no way I can get the stock overflow on an AGA megaflow to get like 3600gph (3000gph for CLS and 600gph through sump) through the drain.

I would like to avoid drilling the back of my tank if possible and I think hanging the inlet to my CLS right over the back of the tank and into the overflow would greatly limit the chance of any biolife being sucked in and it will also be asthetically pleasing as I wont be able to see the added inlet pipe in my display.

Please give me your input guys!!!

nope, will not work. the overflow itself can not support that much flow. the drain size is not the only limiting factor in overflow design. in order to get 3600gph through an overflow it would have to have a linear length of at least 54inches. for that much flow you will prolly need a dual manifold. one for the inlet and one for the outlet. now you see why people like to drill their tanks.

That ? sure comes up a lot. As Geoff mentioned - won't work

I would drill the tank for two intakes for the pump and use at least 1.5" BH's w/strainers. Tied together behind the tank with a "T". and then come back into the tank either over the top or drill some more holes for 3/4" Bh's maybe 4 of them and then use lokline to split each one into two for a total of 8.

or just run a pipe over the back with a "strainer" on the one end (or "T"ed) if you get creative you may be able to hide the pipe behind your rock work. And for the return line you would have to split it in the tank so you only have one pipe in and one out.,

of course drilling the tank is the best way.... less hassles in the long run
