Closed Brain Question (Goniastrea)

Hey everybody,

Quick question . . . I went to the lfs this weekend . . . and ended up coming home with a closed brain coral (goniastrea). I couldn't help it . . . it just looked so cool. Anyway, . . . the question . . . the guy at the store said that they would do well under moderate light and to feed with phytoplankton. So I bought some live phytoplankton . . . and am giving the thing a blast from the turkey bastor every few days. But most of what I've seen around the web seems to suggest that this coral may need metal halides? It seems to be doing alright. Does anybody have any "care tips" for this particular type of coral?

I've got a kalk drip going with an aqua dose, alkanlinity is high, got the phytoplankton thing going . . . but it's under compact flourescents. Do you think that's enough light?

Thanks for any help,

Skyeskrapr

Borneman lists them as very hardy, capable of dealing with extreme water movement, intense light, and exposure to air in the wild. They may adapt to weaker Power Compact lighting or not thrive over the long run, hard to say. I have no personal exp with this coral, but I do recommend researching before purchasing. Good luck with it.
