Clip Feeding a Yellow Tang
I have been trying to feed my Yellow Tang using a clip and some Romaine lettuce. He's (she's?) basically ignoring it. Is there any way to "train" a fish to feed off of a clip? Or do I just wait until he figures it out...

It could be that he don't realize what is in the clip or it might be maybe he don't like lettuce. Have ya tried Nori ? You can find it in an asian food store or maybe a grocerie store where the Asian foods are located it is used to make sushi. Also it is supposed to be better for Tangs and such since it is seaweed I have had really good luck usin it with the tangs i have had. HTH

you could try feeding it some sea veggies on a clip, that might work better. i know the tang will eat the luttuce, but its not the best diet for it.
eventually, imo, the tang should figure out were the food source is. as far as training it to feed off a clip, don't know if that's possible.....

We hang nori and broccoli in a clip that floats on a length of fishing line. The yellow and purple tang, as well as the rest chase it in the current.

mine didnt eat it either off the clip at first (I use nori). I put it in the tank several days (a fresh piece every day) before I finally noticed one day it was gone when I came home from work. now they eat it like crazy; just give them time, theyll probably figure it out!

I would say scrap the romaine. I started off using Julian Sprung sea veggies, you can smell it when you open the bag. The scent will attract the tang and he'll know where his food is. I use nori now...it costs alot less and is also good for the tang. I've had my tang for about a year now, he eats out of my hand. I pick caulerpa or chaeto from the fuge and hold it for him.
I almost always go through the same routine when I feed. I take a tupperware container of water from the same corner of the tank, place it on the shelf next to the tank, thaw whatever I'm feeding, then dump it in the tank. All the fish know the routine now. At first they would all gather on that side of the tank and wait for their feeding. Now when I walk in the room they beg by going to that side! It's a riot to watch.
Give it some time and yours will too!

Where can I get a good clip with a suction cup?
All I can find is those clips that look like a clownfish or a octopus.

Another related question while I think of it...
The clip I have "rotates" in the current (ie: swings back and forth using the suction cup as a pivot point). Could that motion be scaring the fish off or is that typical?
****...I hate being a novice at this!

Give this a try. Take a piece of rigid clear tubing.(ussually have it a LFS) about 2-3". Tie a piece of fishing line to it, then rubberband the nori to the pvc. Mine sways in the current. Everyday it is empty. All my fish eat from it including Yellow Tang, clowns, Ebli angel, chromis.

The veggies worked! It took about an hour or so for him to work up the nerve. Looked like he was trying to fake the clip out... ...then he made a lunge and pulled off a chunk. That was it! He's been at it non-stop for over an hour!
Now I think my problem will be a FAT yellow tang!
Thanks for the help all!
