cleaning magnets... are they good?

Are those cleaning magnets that cost big bucks and better than just plain old hand scraping? Are they any better than the little sheep ones???

Magnavore's = expensive but worth every penny. Unless, you like spending your time cleaning the glass.

I have never found a magnetic cleaner that I liked. I ordered a Kent Pro Scraper and it is awsome. It takes about 30 seconds and the glass is spotless. My scraper is 24" or so in length, so I never have to get my hands wet. It was a great investment. You can also get them with plastic blades for acrylic tanks.

I have an Aquarium Systems magnet the was given to me. It works well as long as I am careful moving from one pane to the other. On thinner glass tanks its OK but if I had a 90 or bigger I would have to get one of the HD models/ Considering the cost I would definatly try a Pro Scraper first

I have a magnet for my 90g and it is great. I can clean the three sides in less than 5 minutes. It even goes around corners so I never have to get my hands wet. I then leave the magnet in the water on whichever end I finish on. You can't get right down to the substrate or you risk getting stuff in the magnet and scratching your glass. I leave that for the snails.

I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the Mag Float. For a cheap magnet it kicks butt.
