I'm not sure what you mean by clean? Is this newly purchased rock or is it in your tank already

Ok, if its new rock many would suggest a "cooking" process. You can go to search and search for cooking and get the details and methods. Basically people take new rock, and scrub it down with a stiff brush, rinsing with clean sw. Then put in containers with a powerhead. The water should be changed and rocks swished around every day or 2 for up to a couple months in some cases.
If you are in a hurry, you could do this for a shorter time.

actually every week or two is all you need to change the water when you are cooking. if you changed it every day or two it would be a collossal waste of water and energy. You just want to get rid of the phosphates that have been turgored out of the rock before they have a chance to suck it back up.

the cooking process doesnt even really start until aboout the 3rd or 4th week IME, so two months is kind of minimum top really see any benefit out of it

you can read the basic program here....http://thereeftank.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66551

If you have the time and energy, cooking your rock before tank start up is about as beneficial thing as you could ever do for yourself and you will have a serious head start and advantage over if you didnt

If you are starting over you could always take it out and cook it. That is probably the most effective way to remove most of the crap trapped in the rock. Most people dont want to wait on that if they already have tank inhabitants. Conservative option: get a good powerhead and blast the rock...let settle and siphon and repeat. Option to piss off the wife: Take the rock out scrub it with brush...swish and repeat.
