Cleaning bottom of tank

I have reset my 55gal tank with sugar sand in the bottom instead of the crushed coral I used to use in it. Anyway I am wondering how to clean the sand I was told you cant vaccum it like crushed coral. Any help would be great.

I'd get sand sifting animals, but till then ,I'd stir it and suck the cloudy water.

+1 on the old stir and suck. Nassarius snails by the way are great for that and fun to watch.

I love watching mine. My son gets a kick out of them at feeding time because it's like a army of snails that emerge from the bed. They act like they are on a serious mission lol.

You can easily put 50-100 nassarious snails in your sand and never see them until you feed your tank. Its pretty sweet!

They really creep me out. I call them my "night of the living dead" snails.
