Cleaner Shrimp vs. Elegance Coral
O.K, so I recently added a Cleaner Shrimp to the tank, and at the same time I noticed my Elegance Coral has been retracted the last couple of days. Now I discover everytime the Elegance beigns to open the shimp goes to after the polyps and pick rapidly until it closes back up. I have been playing a little whack a shimp and knock him off 3 times. Is there anything else I can do to stop this ?

This is frustrating. I can't upload a pic. This happens all the time. I have shrunk the JPEG all the way down to 39 kb and it still says I have exceeded my limit. I don't get it, but this happens more times then not. Sometime I have no problems uploading other times I get the error. I only have 516Kb total uploaded.

different side of the story: i just added my elegance yesterday into my 125gl that already have 3 cleaner and 2 fire shrimps... did some research on elegance and found out that they dont like cleaner shrimps.. so i tried to catch those 3 cleaners out but could only got 1 today and traded it in! those shrimps don't worth the elegance! i even saw my mandarin and cleaner wrass picked the food out of it!

Final soultion: The Cleaner shrimp is GONE. LFS took it back for full credit. I called them up and explained what was going on and before I could finish they told me get it out and bring it back. Now to hoping the EC makes a full recovering. I will try and feed it later this afternoon.

make a photobucket account and then upload them all there
or like what i do, go to tinypic.com and upload it and then paste the code in the thread
do you feed your elegance? it could be shooting out food and the shrimp keeps trying to get it

I do feed the EC, but nothing in since I had placed the Cleaner Shimp in there. I am sure it is just trying to get food particles, but it was bothering the EC so much it had completely stopped opening. I will miss the shimp as it was not a hider and looked go in the tank. It had just molted also, it was only a few hours after molt that is was out again. I do believe the EC was assoicatied with food as twice a nice chuck from feeding ended up in the EC and was quickly snatched away.

I wish my LFS was as nice. I was trying to return a blenny once and their all like, "No, policy is absolutely no returns on saltwater fish"

I will say that the LFS's here in Detroit Metro are real good. Both Pet Connection in Livonia and The Fish Doctor in Canton go out of there way to help you out. It probably does not hurt that I have spent a fortune at both places :-).

If I had to choose between an elegance and shrimp I'd probably go with the elegance too Good luck and hope it goes back to normal.

Where was the Elegance collected? If it was collected in Indonesia it probably won't recover. If this one does not make it, and you want another one, please make sure it was collected from Australia.

So far it is semi recovered. Expanded well after a small feeding for a half the day. I am pretty sure it is an Aussie, it was under MH's in the LFS and 8 T5HO under mine and seems to respond well to the light.
Still is not a well opened before the three days of shimp attacks.

elegance corals don't do well in captivity. i've read that the aussie ones do better but it is still a risky coral. good luck.
