Clarkii Clown and Sebae Anemone

Well they have these at the LFS and the Clarkii already goes in the anemone... I can get them both for $40... I have read about how Clarkii's will bite your hand when you put it in the tank and draw blood etc... plus about how not to put them in the tank with other conspecifics... I have a Kaudern's Cardinal, 2 clowns and a clown goby... but I think this addition will make a finishing touch on my reef... I have a 29G, now I know I have lots of fish, but I do weekly water changes and I also do constant skimming and check ammonia weekly and its always zero.... so I want to know from the experts on what everyone thinks on this being my last fish buy... or would the clarkii simply scare all the other clowns and my tank not be the same anymore... I could have bought these the other day but decided to wait and think it over and get some opinions...

Thanks..

-Roger

Not advisable -- you put the reasons out there yourself.

Sebae anemone is fragile, gets very large - too large for a 29. Clarkiis will host in just about anything, from my experience, they'd do just as well in a BTA in an appropriate tank. Have even seen them host in a Condylactus!

You don't want to put multiple species of clown in the same 29 g tank, that's a recipe for a fight.

In my experience, Clarkiis are no more aggressive than average. Maroons, Cinnamons, Tomatoes tend to be the most beligerant, in my experience, Clarkiis are somewhere in the middle. I've found skunk clowns to be about the most docile, but I've had one for about a year in my sell system that has become a bit of a tyrant. She doesn't look enough like "Nemo" to be attractive to customers, but she's a pretty fish, not too big (they are a smaller specie of clown)... just doesn't have the right stripes

I'd forego the temptation this time, if I were you.

I'm with jenn, NO, The sebae would prob die off or definately get too big if it lived, And the new clown would probably be a pest to the others

Well I thought I would ask... I know you need to introduce different types of clowns at the same time... the aquarium people seem to do it without any trouble.. are there any fish-anemone combos that would be suitable..

I got some free store credit from a scratch of game the guy is running, there is plenty of times I saw stuff I liked but didn't get because of compatibility issues or to big for my tank issues.

Yuo have to keep in mind that the lfs people are able to do it because they were shipped in large mass quanitys and put under a great deal of strees the put into brand new unfamiliar tank, If the fish we're given several months to establish their territory they would begin to fight with newly added fish etc....

I would have to agree with Jenn on not going with a sebae anemone. They are amongst the hardest to keep. Most clowns will host in a BTA and they are a lot easier to keep.

IME I have introduced a maroon clown with 3 perculas. Everything has been fine and it is after 3 months. I purchased the maroon when it was very small. It has grown to a little bigger than the percs now. I would have to say if you are introducing the most aggressive fish to a tank, introduce them last. I would also have to say the smaller you can get the better off you are. They will be less aggressive this way.

Just print this and put it next to your tank. It will fill your need for a seabae

Mine is in a 180 gal tank.
