Clams under PCs????
Ok I know I should have MH, but I have Power compacts and I like em!
I have seen ppl keeping clams under T5s. Has anyone kept them under PCs? I have a 75g with almost 400watts of power compact lighting

people have been succesful at keeping some under pc's, but you should try the lower light species (derasa, squamosa, i think) its a better idea to try to up your lights, but you seem to have a huge amount of pc's so it might be ok, but it is possible, so keep your hopes up.

I wrote a Clam FAQ,.. it's sticked at the top of the "Clam" fourm,.. it could be some help.
I would not try Maxima, or Crosea,.. but Derassa, Gigas, or Squmosa you'll probably have some luck with.

current does make one of the better pc kits. individual reflectors right? personally i probably wouldnt try it, but i could see your lighting being sufficient to sustain a clam. how tall is a 75gal?

I'm sorry but I don't remember how long I've had the clams now but it has been a lot of years. My site has a clam page showing pics of them spauning.
The squamosa now is about 11 or 12 inches long and the darn thing is always spitting out about a cup of water on the floor, many times a day. Makes a mess of the floor and the tank.
The crocea is doing fine also but the lighting isn't intense enough to keep the gold pattern in the purple mantle. This was the first clam I bought and I'm guessing I've had it 6 yrs.
The lights are NO's, not T-5. All my reef tanks have "wall to wall" NO's in the hoods.
However, due to health problems, I have to downsize drasically so I'm planning on putting the clams in the tank that I am going to rebuild the hood for using 4 T-5's with SLR's, overdriven with an IceCap 660, and, two 40w NO's.
The squamosa will be a challenge to move because of it's size and the size of the rock it is attached to.
As a side note, these clams have survived three summers of major heat problems, the third being tank temperatures of 96F. The croceas lost the purple color and went brown, but a week later, they were back to normal again, even though I lost a lot of other livestock.

I have 440w PC/Actinic combo on my 75g tank and I've had a Derasa clam for over 6 months now and it's growing and doing well.

I am currently keeping a maxima under 130 watt pcs on a 29......... and it thriving
It was a stupid move of me though and I got lucky that the clam adjusted well. Its not recomended. Look into a squamosa or deresa.
