clams

Hey everyone
okay
I'm going to head over to the clam archieve now but while I'm reading I hoped to get some specific opions on my set up.
I am soon going to upgrade to some decent lighting
it will be VHO 2 95 watt bulbs. One being actinic the other 10,000K.
My tank is 16 inches deep 35 gallon (although I am recently thinking it might really be 30!)
Now is there any type of clam that can be kept under this lighting or are they a MH species only?
thanks

since your tank is shallow, you can get away w/ the lights on some species

the one to avoid is the crocea, not a good first clam (from personal experience and others )

-& avoid ones w/ bright blue colors as they tend to fade and get dark spots on the mantles w/ out MH, that also 1st hand from watching an electric crocea turn from blue to brown

I would try a green or dark collorred squamosa, deresa or maxima

-If you get a clam, you'll always want one, they are awesome

Excellent
You think I could get away with keeping one of the sand provided there is no shade or should I place it on the rock close to the surface?
So try to keep away from blue and stay with green
I can deal with that
I may try a maxima just because they are smaller than the others. But will try a squamosa if they tend to be better suited to my tank!
thanks adam!

Not quite sure on the subject but from what i have heard clams always do way better under MH. Might wanna wait to hear what some other people say before you buy one. No sence getting one if it will not be able to survive in your tank.

Clams under 3" require direct feeding, I'd get one 3"+ for your first clam if I were you.

Mafiaman is right on about size and he would only need to keep the clams I talked about under MH, I'm counting on him having good PC's or VHO's (replace every 9 months), if his tank were deeper than 10", (thats what I have read and it had held true to my experience)

a green or for lack of better description drab collored maxima that is bigger than 3" will do okay just supplement w/ some phyto....
