clam losing color


i have two clams , one is losing its color.what should i do. i placed it closer to the light in the meantime. btw,i ordered an ro/di max 60 gph just like you told me too. thanks.paid little for it too.

What kind of clams are they...and what kind of lighting are you using right now? Are they reactive (if you wave your hand over them?) Are they gaping open? Are you dosing calcium?

ones a dersa, thats the good one. the other is a maxima blue thats the one losing its colr. yes when i waave my hand over it it closes.anything i could do to get that electric blue color back brooke.

Clams can start to lose their fluorescent color if exposed to TOO MUCH LIGHT especially if they are not accustomed to it. What happens is that the symbiotic organisms in the clam's mantle start to overgrow and cover up the fluorescent parts. Try moving the clams lower and away from the light or try raising the lights higher. Good luck!

By the way, be patient. It may take a while before the colors stabilize even after you decrease the clam's exposure to light. It's OK as long as the clam is responsive to shadows and such.
