I forget your tank size and lighting description but his placement will all depend on that and you knever know he may not like it up on the rocks anyway and use his own little foot and move around.

My little 2.5 inch maxima is on the substrate and hardly ever moves now in my 75 g under 2x175 12k with 2x96 blue attinics and he opens so wide and beatiful I never realized how much lighting makes a differance until I set these new tanks up.

What exact MH's are you using?? Clams are mostly now coming from farms so they are more used to sand beds. I have about 8 clams now in my 180g. under 3 250w 65k iwasaki's and they are showing new shell growth. Trying to make them stay in the rock work can stress them out but if they like the sand bed cool, otherwise like was said trying to place them high may bleach them from too much light. Do you know the lighting the clam is coming from?? That would be the biggest help you could know. If it like to yours then you could place the clam accordingly right off the bat. I try to know where whatever I'm getting in is acclimated to. Clams, frags etc. It helps in the acclimation process. HTH...

Casey,

If it is a Tridacna Crocea, they need lots and lots of light and rocks to bury themselves in. The other clams don't need quite as much light, like sand and a little nitrate in the water. I dont have my links here with me at work but why don't you go to www.google.com and do an advanced search on your type of clam. Lots of great articles.
Good Luck,

Bill
