Clam Experts Picture included but with flash :(

I bought a crocea clam 2 days ago and things seem fine. I have it placed on the sand bed on some rubble rock as I am concerned it needs adjustment to my 250 watt 10k bulbs. It was under 175 watt bulbs at the store.

I have 2 questions:
1) It's about 4 inches in length. Should I be feeding it? If so what?
2) How soon can I move it higher? It already has attached to the rock below it.

Thanks,
Brian

Let me direct you to the Clam FAQ I just wrote for this sight, it should give you some good info on your Clam:
http://thereeftank.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84096

At 4 inches it does not need feeding.

I would move it up a bit every 7 days or so, but give it about 12 days to sit on the bottom and acclimate to your water first IMO.

Don't make the steps to drastic, but don't move it 1/4 inch up either. Moving things around all the time is not great for them either and a 3 step process to final placement is probably sufficant IME.

HTH,
Whiskey

In the picture he is gaping and the mantle may extend more, hard to tell from just a pic. The gaping is probably from stress, but if he always does that it is something to worry about.

Great looking clam!

When I first got mine it was gaping. After I moved it higher up it didn't do that anymore. This is a picture of when I first got it. It was gaping.

Great Looking Clam. I bough a blue one just like it about a month or so ago. I have mine right at the top of the tank. If I put him anywhere but up top he would jump.
GoodLuck!

Thanks for all the great comments! I'm planning a 3 step process of moving the clam up to the top of my rock structure. I hope he will be happy as I haven't had the greatest of luck with clams...
