Hi Doug.....nice to chat with you again.....I haven't been on line in a while....so I'll give you a general tank update.....the Cinnamon Polyps look like they are recovering nicely. They are substantially smaller than when I first got them but all are standing upright now and seem to be getting some of their "cinnamon" coloration back. I am feeling hopeful.
In general - the tank in the wall unit idea was a faliure. As predicted by most.....(except the manufacturer of the wall unit) the
salt creep is causing major destruction. The hinges are rusting and the stain is being eaten off the wood from the inside. We have to keep the sump cabinet doors open all the time so we have horrific noise when we are watching tv. Also even with the doors open..... no matter what we do we can't beat the humidity build-up in the cabinet. Although the unit sits about 8 inches from the wall and we have built vent holes and extraction fans work 24/7.....we realized something....by extracting the salty humid air out of the fish area and putting it behind the wall unit......we are piping salt out toward the back of the tv and all the other electronic components....OUCH!!!!!
So here is the solution - I convinced the hubby to do a major sacrifice for me - he is moving his tool bench out of its area in the garage since it sits directly behind my living room wall. We are going to put the tank in the garage and cut a window into the living room wall instead. But the best part is ....since the tank is going into the garage ....I have room for more than 65 gallons so i got a 210 instead. YAY - now I can build a "REAL" reef! For now I am in the "cleaning up the garage to make space for a relocated tool bench" phase. I am also gathering equipment since now I can get halide lights anda chiller as well. I'll keep you posted on the progress!
