Most will say yes and it is probably best to. depending on how much you top off too determines. But I never do

I add a gallon a day straight out of the tap(110g tank)!.....no dechlorinating. Not the best idea but has worked for over four years thus far. also on my 10 gallon Itoo add about 16oz straight out of the tap!

I am getting RO/DI soon thought.

I use Stress Coat. It's made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals and is sold by Wal-Mart. Real good stuff. Also good for when you add new critters.

That's true,... but it doesn't get rid of cloramine, so find out what your water company uses.

Carefull with de-clors though, especially ones like stress coat, they will mess with your skimmer.

Can you get distilled water form the store? Better than tap water IMO (but more expensive )

i think the second you start adding the salt mix it changes the cloramine to something harmless.

I don't know Geoff. The cloramines scare me. Whiskey is also right. If you use to much Stress, it foams. Best to get distilled or ro/di. I keep the Stress Coat in case of some kind of emergancy. I do use it when I am acclimating fish. It doesn't go in the tank that way but will help fish that have been banged around.

When I was on city used stress coat. Will make the skimmer go crazy so turn it low as it will go. I had to even turn my skimmer off once it foamed so bad.

If you can't afford distilled or some sort of purified water then your just asking for problems, this isn't a hobby to take lightly & put fish & corals in harms way, we should all try our best to give these as good of a home as we can provide, tap water in most cases is a bad way to start off. Sorry to sound rude but I hate to see people doing things like this.

Where in Oregon are you? City or Rural, depends on the local water, if you are on City water then yes I would use a de chlor at the very least. It will outgass chlorine if you keep it in a tub or something and swhirl it with a power head for a day, but that wont address the chloramine or and of the various other things municipal water supplies treat water with. If you are on well water, chlorine won't be an issue but excessive TDS and or nitrate/phosphates from agricultural runoff getting into the water table can be a problem over time.
At the very least I would run a pair of Tap Water Purifiers in series to remove all the nasties but unless you find online at killer sale price theres half the cost of a decent RO/DI unit. It's really kind of foolish to invest the time and money in a reef tank and try to skimp on water quality
