Chiller VS Halides.

Ok so I recently installed Halides on my tank. I upgraded from PC lighting I am running a chiller that is rated for a 135 G tank. With the new lights installed the chiller runs from when the halides are on till they turn off. Is this ok will it burn the chiller out.

im not to familiar with chillers but have you tried running fans?

Yes I have fans in the hood pulling heat out but chiller runs constantly.

what temp do you have the chiller set on?

Chillers are like A/C.They need to cycle on and off.Stay on all the time will burn it out and mite overheat,which could cause a fire.

its 5 months old. its a jbj. I have it set at 79. When the halides turn on it can piull the temp down to 78.4 and thats it until the lights turn off.

i run mine 80-82, sometimes 83 84 during the day. so far ive had no issues. try running the tank a little warmer to see if the chiller runs less

good idea you think its a big deal going from 78 to 79?

nope i purposly have a swing in temp in my tank. i think it makes the corals and stuff stronger

ok I just adjusted the chiller that's a good idea lets see if it can pull it down to 79.4 it should if it can pull it down to 78.4 lol.

At this current moment Tim my corals are pissed off at me I upgraded there lighting and they hate it lol I hope they adjust to it.

did you do any thing to adjust them? like putting screen over the tank or something? going from pcs to metal halides will blast them lol there hating it because its so bright so there probably shrivled in

yea that's exactly what they did. I didnt know to do that when i first installed them so no i didnt put a screen over them. I have been running the halides for 3 hours a day but they are still all closed up well not all of them are some though.

I have a JBJ Artica chiller for my 135-gallon, it runs most of the day but I have my halides on a timer, they cut off after six hours. I have many corals, they are all doing well.

Yes, the chiller runs a lot. I've had the chiller for 4 years and never had a problem, it is set at 80 degrees.
