ide recommend picking up some screening from lowes, home depot, or some other hardware store and cut 4 pieces the size of your tank and put them all on your tank. then slowly take them off as days or weeks go by ( ide take one off once a week , but some people do it quicker)

then hopefully your corals will start coming back

With the screens in place can I run the lighting longer the full cycle instead of 3 hours. The chiller will not pull down below 79.5. could it be the size of the hose going to the chiller the way it's plumbed how do you guys have your chiller plumbed.

So I put the screens in place def dimmed the lighting. The chiller will not shut off. I turned it to 79 and it goes up to 80 and brings the temp to 79.7 thats it .3 degrees it lowers it its a 1/10 hp for a 75 gallon.

I would suggest cutting the chiller off entirely and instead using a couple PC fans (120mm work well) blowing at the water at a 45* angle. I keep my tank between 80 and 83 using them with an enclosed canopy and 550w of halides. I'm positive I could keep it lower, but I like the temp where it is. Chillers are notorious energy consumers and if fans are employed well there is no need for them as fans alone through evaporative cooling will scrub about 3-5* of temp out of the tank.

Tony you really go without a chiller. I mean the tank reaching a temp of 80 to 83 is ok.

yes, no chiller. average reef temps around the globe reach to 86 without any issues, so yes, 80-83 is ok

I have never used a chiller before and have used halides on all my tanks for the last 8 years. I have a chiller on my current 40 gallon but I think with the anmount of lighting I have it would get to hot with out the chiller. I absolutly agree that having a temp in the neighborhood of 83 degrees is perfectly ok. Some people run their tanks at that temp on purpose to gain higher growth rates.

Ok so i am slowly letting the temp raise its hovering right around 80 and it's holding it was such a fight to keep it at 78 lol. I can't believe it should i set the chiller for like 81 or 82 as a back up in case it rises i have 2 fans blowing on the tank.

Set it for 83 and see if it kicks on... I do want to say that O2 levels are harder to keep up the higher the temp is. You may want to double check your ventalation to the tank and house.

OK I am not running with lids on and I can keep a window or two cracked for some cross ventilation. I am only asking about the chiller is if it's not really needed I can sell it for some other stuff like corals and what not.

Jason the temp in the house is 73 the tank is holding on its own no fans at 79.9. The chiller would kick off at 77.69 for 10 mins then it would heat up turn on it was crazy. I am just thinking of how many fans I am gonna need and where to put them.
