Chili coral
Ive got this chili coral, very beautiful full red color. Ive had it about 2 months. He seems very happy and healthy. I have him on the substrate like i heard he was supposed to go but i swear he loves to be IN the substrate. I have done everything short of glue to make him stand up to show all of his glory but it only takes him a few hours to end up back half covered in substrate.
My question is this. Should i just quit harassing the poor thing and let him lay in the dirt? Is he truly intentionally doing this and prefers to be halfway in the substrate, or can i get out the glue and make him stand to attention?
I love the deep red and would prefer he show more of himself but at the same time, i want to really do whats best for him.
thanks

You really dont want to see pics of a red chili coral face down in the dirt under actinics do you?
After i glue him fully upright and the halides come on tomorrow......THEN Ill send you pics. Ok, kidding about the glue, but not the actinics.....they really dont do his colors justice.

I have the same problem with my chili coral. I just put him in the sand usually somewhere so that if he falls back he's on rock and leans forward, he's against tank. Kinda like "Weekend at Bernie's" if you think about it.
Yeah, I know how you feel, I spent about a full day trying to figure out how to stand him up. No matter what I did, he would just lean the other way. They are nocturnal, but still cool to look at during the day, even without their polyps showing.
So...just give up...let him be. I'd try to prop him up so he's someone presentable. If he's happy, let him alone. The dark red is still striking in the tank.

Actually they are very difficult to keep alive; most will just fade away to nothing in 6 months to a year. They require supplemental feeding -- to the point that it will cause algae problems in smaller systems (less than 200g).
