Checking In...

Just a note to really say HI! Haven't been on in awhile--everything appears to be well on my end other than a little bout w/some hair algae (which I'm sure is due to overfeeding).

I'm thinking of adding something to the tank (I'll try to post pictures next week) either another fish or more critters and was wondering what the "experts" think...

I currently have a mostly FOWL set up--90g (upgraded from 40g Thanksgiving 2003), running with wet/dry and protein skimmer rated for 125g, have power compact with 50/50, 2 1200 powerheads (1 on each end higher tank), 2 900 powerheads (1 on each end lower tank), about 2-3 inches of ls and 70 lbs lr.

Tank inhabitants include:
1 2 1/2" Hippo Tang
2 1" Percula Clownfish
2 1" Green Chromis
1 1" Pygmy Angel (purple w/yellow face)
1 2 1/2" Bi-color Blennie
1 3" Yellow Sand Sifter Goby
1 2 1/2" Pink Spotted Goby
1 1" Dusky Jawfish
1 Red Brittlestar
2 Sand Sifter Starfish (3" and 2" diameter/across)
1 Medium Arrow Crab (helps keep the bristleworms down!)
20 Assorted Snails
10 Assorted Crabs (Blue & Red legged)
1 Medium Red/Brown Crab (looks like Emerald, except color)

15 Assorted Shrooms
1 Colt Coral
1 Brown Button Polyp
1 Yellow Polyp
1 Leather Coral
1 Cabbage Coral
3 Assorted White Sponge-type things growing on a rock

I've tried adding shrimp (3 peppermint and 1 cleaner), but can't seem to keep them--they're good one day and no sign of them the next--I'm thinking someone is making them dinner. I was thinking of adding (no not all of them)
Six line
Yellow Tang
Sailfin Tang
Anthias
Gramma

I'm adding in another 20lbs of lr next week (been adding about this much every four weeks for the last 3 months) and taking out more bio-balls (yes, I'm giving in and taking them out, little by little...). I'm also thinking of taking the sandbed down an inch or so...

Question on this...when I take out the balls...can I just put the lr in that space and then vacumm/clean the rocks in there? Can I still use the sponge filter to catch the "trash"?

Anyway, just wanted to say HI...

Glad to have you back! As far as the rock goes, IMO if you have enough rock in the tank, you don't need it in the filter. You can if you like though. The sponge can stay but needs to be cleaned every few days. Uneaten food and other stuff can get trapped and break down and cause high nitrates.

BTW, I 'd be careful about adding anothe tang to the tank. A 90 might be ok for one tang but any more is pushing it IMO. Bob
