SCWD's work well but you have to plumb it correctly. They can get stuck if something big enough gets into them (never seen that happen personally since the return pump impeller would chop it up).
The hydor rotator thing has a tendency to get stuck all the time and need to be cleaned.

Never used one myself, but have seen numerous complaints that the scwd seriously reduces flow. Hydor-flo's seem to have a better record.
A more expensive, but more reliable options is the ocean motions squirt, that uses a small motor instead of the flow pressure to cause the current alternation. Just a thought.

How does that OM squirt attach to the tank? The pictures didn't really explain it too well. Can I run that off of my return line coming from my sump?

I've used the Hydor Flo's...I like the random flow they provide and didn't have much trouble with them getting stuck (if they do they just pop apart for easy cleaning). My real complaint was the the flow was rather "direct", which would be good for for SPS, but I had some issues getting it set up just the way I wanted it with a lot of LPS & softies. Overall, for the price I was pretty happy with them and would recommend them depending on the overall setup.

Man, FlyGuy always has the coolest toys! That CLS system is crazy! I guess I'm just curious if it's worth the $15 for the SCWD or not. I don't really understand how they run in the tank, would I need a separate pump to run it or can it run off of the return from my sump? I have a Mag 7 with 3 feet of head coming into my tank, I would think that would be powerful enough to run one of these but that's just a guess. If it's a P.O.S. then I won't even waste my time.
The main reasoning behind this is because I have a $25 gift card for That Pet Place and they don't have the Salifert test kit I originally was going to spend it on.

Well, I read a few build threads that used a SCWD and they all seemed pretty happy with the performance of it so I think I'm gonna give it a try and see what happens. Hey, what's the worst that could happen? (famous last words...). I'm going to try running my return line from my mag 7 up into the SCWD which will then split the return into two outlets into the tank (one on either side). If I can't get the flow right then I'll have to pick up an additional mag 7 and dedicate it to the SCWD and have the return separate. I'll get it ordered this week and take a few pics when it arrives.

From what ive been hearing and reading is that the wave2K and the tunze wave boxes are the way to go,not that they are the cheapest. But in my experience you may as well spend it up front rather than spending twice as much the second time, and boy did ever learn that the hard way.

You shouldn't have any trouble plumbing it into the return. That how mine is.
put a valve before the SCWD so you can control flow.
