Changing Substrate........

Ok i have CC in my tank right now. I am taking a little bit of CC out each time i do a water change. I dont want to disturb anything in my tank by taking alot out at once. I bought some CaribSea Aragonite sand from my LFS. I plan on rinsing it and slowly adding it to my tank over a period of time. I plan on having it about 3/4" - 1" deep max.

My question is should i rinse it with tap water or RO/DI water? Will tap water hurt anything to rinse it with?

Thanks,
Tim

Check the bag. I just did this recently and it stated to "not rinse".

me too.

I just swapped out the CC for 1 to 3 mm Aroganite. My bed is 4 inches deep with a plenum under it. I did not rinse. After 24 hours the fines settled and the fine stuff helps to fill in the gaps to provide a tighter bed.

Ok i guess i wont be rinsing the sand then before i add it. Would adding through a funnel that is attached to a flex tube that sits on the bottom be better? I kinda made a pic in MS paint to show.

Thanks,
Tim
