Changing Substrate

Ok... So I have had my tank setup for about 4 years... Currently it has a CC substate... I am in the process of getting it setup for corals... So I have been thinking about changing from CC to Sand... How would I go about this?? There is about 120lbs of LR, 10 fish, and a few inverts... Do I need to take everything out or can I do like 1/2 the tank and then the other 1/2??

Thanks for suggestions!

If you are running a undergravel filter you will need to redo your filtration. If you are just changing the substrate the easiest way is to use a large plastic cup and scoop it out.
Rinse your sand and scoop it back in with a cup. Don't just dump the sand it use the cup take it to the bottom and slowly pour it. As far as half at a time it wouldn't matter if its not your filter.
Good luck

i know it sounds contradictory, but the easiest thing would be to remove your fish rock and coral to a separate holding container(s) ...think rubbermaid totes or 5 gallon buckets..., drain most of the water out and save it (or at least half), remove the crushed coral, rinse your new sand (unless you bought live sand from your lfs, in which case you just add it directly with no rinsing), then scoop it into the tank (keep in mind the tank is empty at this point). then add back 50% of your water (you might have this pre-mixed and kind of look at it like a 50% water change. just be sure its chemistry is very similar to your current water in the way of ph, salinity, etc). then add back your LR, then your corals, then your fish.

im sure the live rock in a 4 yr old tank wouldnt hurt from a good dunk and swish treatment while youre at it.
