You have to take this reply with a grain of salt. I'm a junior guy too. Yet to set up my tank. Like yourself I'm researching before I leap.

What I read last night, stated in a book by Anthony Calfio, is that reflectors do one of two things. They either reduce the light coverage within the reef to a smaller footprint, or they just reflect the light back into the bulb.

I was just going to dismiss them as snake oil myself.

Off the subject kind of, Homeworks what do you think about Calfo's book so far? I am almost finished with it and man I thought it was great! A lot of useful information and insight on keeping and propogating corals. As far as refelectors go I know a lot of reefers use them and swear by them especially the spider light reflectors. Hey karsco, I'm really dig'n this book. I've got the highlighter out and marking passages with incredable information. I couldn't put the book down yesterday.

The section on lighting was very cool. Where he talks about saturation points and corals having colors to filter out UV light. Really great book.

According to the AH web site, their 5 sided reflectors reduce restrike by design. Here is a pic of mine.
