Question

center brace

Im planning on putting a 400w metal halide over my little brothers 28 gallon bow ( i know, thats a lot of light) anyway the aquarium is 2 feet long and has a 2 inch center brace. If i center the halide pendent, is the brace going to significantly cut down on my light supply? i know that the light is gonna be at a minimum diriectly under the brace, but what about everywhere else? will the par be that much lower? any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

i recomend 2 250 or 2 150 on each side around the same amount of light but no "dead spots and you defanitly need to keep a clam or two with that much light

OK as someone who has one light (it was too good a deal to pass on when a buddy upgraded) that is one MH, I offset it a little so that one side is brighter. I like the darker side as well. (good for shrooms) and with some PC augmentation, it isn't DARK.

Something to note, you will see a shadow, my tank I put a lot of top water movement, so I get a shimmer, which makes the shadow less visible.

If I had the money to get either, I would go with 2 MH rather than 1. BUT, if you place it higher, the light will be better (and with 400W over a 28, you should be up a bit)

I agree with two (smaller...lol) lights.

But if you want to stick with one.....cut the majority of the center brace out and using weld on # 40 glue a pice of thin acrylic in its place. You will have to keep the salt creep cleaned off, but light will pass through
