carbon bags

so i went up to petco and they didn't have the right carbon bags for my filter
so i bought a 900ml container of premium activated carbon and a filter bag ....well the bag i got is a 4x12 inch bag ...i my filter requires something like an 8x8 .....i also have a large filter sock (maybe 8x12)

questions are:

how much carbon do i use ...i have a 55g and a renaxp2 filter

should i use the filter bag or filter sock?

i probably go with the filter sock, just because it matches the dimension better. i have a 55g also and when i run carbon (2-3 days a month) i use about 1.5 - 2 cups of it. IMO you can't use too much, as long as it fits into the location you're using it.

you probably already know this, but rinse it with water from the tank or fresh RO (not tap) in a separate container before placing it into the system. it'll remove the carbon dust,

ya its was pretty easy desicsion once i tred it ....the sock barely fit in the basket empty and the filter bag had to be folded in half ...so i was only able to fit half the carbon in it
probably not the most efficient but thats what i had so i used it ..ill know better next time ...i always learn better from, mistakes anyways ...lol
