Captive Raised Flame Angels

There were several people in chat the other night interested in the information on Captive raise flame angels.

I emailed an informed friend that was able to pass along the information several of you asked for.
Here it is copied and pasted from my email enjoy:

The First Flame Angelfish Raised Entirely In Captivity At Oceanic
Institute
in Waimanalo, Hawaii.
On 1/22/02 they reported raising Centropyge loriculus. The pioneering
group
of Flame Angels was 3 months old at the time of the report. They
succeeded
by isolating & raising zooplankton from their local reef environment.
The research teams were led by Dr. Charles Laidley and Dr. Robin
Shields.

Heh, I just browsed to http://oceanicinstitute.org & found a lot of
info on
the story & the facility.

Also: http://starbulletin.com/2002/01/23/news/index.html has what
appears to
be the same article that FAMA had, photos & all

I have also heard that the same has been accomplished with Hippo tangs (blue tang).

That's so cool! I can't wait to be able to buy one of those. Hopefully they will be longer lived then their wild caught counterparts.

Oh, they will be more expensive. But not as expensive as going through two or more to get one that will survive if you have your heart set on this fish. Easier on the fish population and our wallets
