I started my reef tank, 40 gallons, about a 2 weeks ago. I had done a lot of research around on the internet and books etc. Well I also relied on a friend of a friend who works at the store where I buy my fish supplies who is an experience aquarist with reef tanks. My question is directed at sea salts, sorry to those who are tired of hearing about these. The type of salt he recommended for me and I ended up using is
Oceanic Natural Sea Salt Mix. There seems to be A LOT of precipitate which forms on the glass and on some of the live rock which are now turning white (though i've been told and read that the live rock turning white at some point sometimes happens during the cycling process). All parameters are fine. I want to know if it is ok to mix sea salts or do I need to do a complete water change? I'm not really happy with this current sea salt, even though it may be working just fine at this point, and am considered changing to Red Sea Salt. I've come to this conclusion based on reviews I've read on the product and from other aquarists that I've talked to though none seem to know the answer about mixing the two different products. Considering that reef systems are very sensitive I would assume that I need to do a complete water change. Any advice or answers to this would be great! Thanks!
