In theory it cooks the algae, kills it so it is easily scraped off. If I had a glass tank......this is of course a non issue as I would simply take a razor blade and be done with it.

With acrylic tanks....getting coralline this thick off is dicey and really hard to do so without scratching

ok.....verdict

does it work??? Yes

Is it faster than elbow grease. No. about the same amount of time. This could sway in favor of elbow grease with less thick of coralline than I showed you, and in favor of the boiling water unit with thicker stuff than I showed you

Is it safer than elbow grease and a plastic scraper designe for acrylic on coralline as thick as I showed you. Yes.

It is surely easier. the unti actually would ROCK if it could do more than 1 square inch at time. It cooks the square inch in less than ten seconds, but it still needs scraped off. If the unit could do 4 or even 8 square inches at a time I would say it would be worth its weight in gold.

Is it worth the $70 after shipping I paid for it?? kinda. Ill be using it at times...especially for the next couple of hours.

my conclusion.....if you have acrylic tanks....dont let them get in this condition. If you DO regularly let them get in this condition and want them clean......i guess its worth buying

I seen this item in action. It does work just a little time consuming. As far as how much use the product takes before braking I don't know.

Do you think running it for an hour or two will effect the water temp much? I have never seen one in person so I am just curious

no.

i guarantee the pumps I have running alone put way more heat into the water.......not to mention lights

of course...on a really small tank with a couple hours of coralline cleaning to do...it might

Interesting. I have manged to keep scratches off of the 150 but cleaning coraline in the past was a nerve wracking event. When I get set back up I will have to give it a go.

in both of my tanks the coralline grows faster than the film algae...so the tiny bit of film algae that is there gets caught when i scrape coralline. I try to scrape it once or twice a week so it doenst buildup and then it is easy...but you know how that goes.

even if I make sure to scrape it once every 2 or 3 weeks it isnt too bad of a chore.........

yes. the hand one for everything I can reach without straining and the 2 footer for everything else. I typicaly go through a blade or two every session.

I luckily have a wholesale connection but they still cost my $1.25 a pop. once that edge is compromised too much its trash.....you can just keep feeling it with your finger and pick some of the burrs off of it...but its a balancing act on when its ok and when it isnt before it will start scratching too.

Im done with acrylic. next tanks I get I will bite the bullet and do the starfire thing and get thick enough glass I can still riddle them with holes
