Can the bracing on the top of a bow front be fixed?
Someone local is selling a large bow front. Both braces are broken. Can they be fixed and what is a good price for a 175 gallon bow, stand, canopy. No lighting or other equipment. Thanks for the help but I just don't know what a reasonable offer would be.

I don't know if that can be fixed. Unless you're getting an absolutely steal, I wouldn't get the tank. I'd always be looking at the tank and thinking, "hmmm, I wonder if it's gonna bust?" Not worth the stress and potential disaster IMO. 175 gallons on the living room floor would not be a pretty site.

Well, OK, disregard my earlier post. If you can get a replacement, that sounds reasonable.

not sure if it is aga. The only 175 gallon tanks I have found are oceanic. So what is a good price for this tank? New they are around 2200 here for tank, stand, canopy. I wan't to be reasonable but am aware that it is a damaged tank. Guess I need to see what kind it is exactly.

IMHO I wouldn't do it,.. Bow fronts are known for leaking anyway,.. I would never trust a repaird one

Well the price on the tank is good, the frame is 70. The tank is two years old, doesn't leak. Has not warped but I won't be putting water in it until I replace the brace. I have also talked to aga and the lfs and as long as it isn't warped, replacing the brace should make it good as new. This is to be a fowler tank so I am thinking instead of adding the weight of 250 lbs or so of rock just using ornamental coral pieces. Maybe a little live rock for looks but not like I have the reef tank filled with rock. What skimmer would you do? Mr3 maybe? I want to get all the equipment before I even think of filling it.

I would probably go with something like a G4 for simplicity,.. and it's a good performing skimmer. If your going MR then the MR-2 is more than enough for that tank if driven by a GenX PCX-55.

Thanks Whiskey. Who makes the G4? I have an mr1 and love it which is why I was thinking of staying with the brand. I thought if I go light on the rock I would need an even better skimmer. What do you think?
