can I use any kind of silicone


Im trying to resilicone An old tank. I striped out the old
and was going to go to home depot to buy normal silicone to save money. Im not sure if it will work has any one tryed this?

I did the same thing. I was told 100% silicone is 100% silicone no matter where you buy it. Just make sure it doesn't have anything in it to prevent mildew, etc. I personally get overwhelmed in that isle of the store so on recommendation I bought mine at NAPA - part number 765-1336. Something like $10 a tube, but I KNEW it is safe and I knew it wouldn't have an off color.
Tip: tape off the edges with painters tape and grind down an old credit card to match the curve you want. Beats using your fingers. Get help and work fast! I did mine by myself and the last bit of silicone was already starting to set by the time I got to smoothing it down.

You can also use a nickel or a quarter to round out the inside edge.

I got a tube at Lowe's that was specifically for use for fish tanks and it was well marked.

I tend to overengineer things though.
