Can anyone tell me if this type of crab is reef safe (pics)?


Hi All,

Can anyone ID this crab? They are one type that has been prevenlent in my Tonga rock.



I would like to know if they will do damage to my reef tank...

It looks simular to an emerald crab with just a few differences. I have heard some of the emerald crab look alikes are not good. They my harm other inhabitants, I would remove it to be safe.

I would second that, after redoing our tank and finding 2 "mystery" crabs that were left over I am very hesitant to have any crabs in our tank. I would vanish them to the sump.

My emeralds have hairy legs and I've read that true emeralds have a red dot on the joint (elbow) closest to the claw on the inside. Mine do. Mine seem to be reef safe. ~kim

Yup! Looks like "Crabzilla" that I had in my tank. Ate my firefish goby and camel shrimp. Sad about the goby, but as for the camel...
Well, you know

Banish the critter (if you can catch him) to the sump! Or the garden outside
