I don't know if this will help but this is about 1/8th of a bigger coral that a friend had. He sold me this piece and then he lost the rest. That is how I had the skeleton piece. The whole coral looked like the piece here. The polyps ran in rows as it does here.

Large Elegance can grow in rows like that but the skeleton doesn't have different compartments like yours. I'm completely lost.

Thanks for trying! These polyps appear to be around 3/16 in length. When the lights go out the polyps go also.

I hate to ask for one more pic, but can you get a pic with the polyp retracted? I think it may be a type of brain coral.

Here are more pictures of this coral. One is at night with the polyps retracted. The other two are from a different angle. I hope this helps.

That's a frag from a maze brain coral. The exact species will be very hard to nail down. There are a gazillion very similar species. IIWY, I'd start feeding it. It would have a field day with some small pieces of krill or mysis shrimp.

The first picture is the one taken in the dark. There are no sweepers in that picture. I had just target feed Reef roids and mysis soaked in selcon. The other two pictures are from this morning after the lights had come on. Do you really think this is a brain?

The picture with the polyp retracted pretty much nails the ID as a brain coral. Not all species of brain coral produce sweepers. The meaty brains like yours, trashys, and rose corals typically don't have sweepers. It's the smaller polyped closed brains that typically produce sweepers.

Do a search for "Manicina areolata" and click on images. I don't believe this is the same identical species, but they are kin folk.
