Can a purple goby and a fire fish goby live together happily?

Ive read in a few places that these guys dont get along very well. I have a 29, so any experience with these fish in close quarters would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dustin,

I have a pair of both the purple and regular firefish with no problems at all. I do have a 120 though. Just make sure they have bolt holes on opposite sides of the tank Also...make sure you have a cover of some sort. Firefish have a reputation for leaping out of the water. I heard a clunk one night and found one of them in the overflow. He bounced in there.

They are very pretty fish and offer some good activity, even if it is a flash of color and a small cloud of sand as they dive into their holes.

Haven't had a purple firefish but I have to add another voice to say cover your tank!

My firefish went carpet surfing a few days before I went on vacation once. I had him for about 3-4 months. The only hole was about 1" wide, and 3-4" long where I had my heater and pumps going in and stuff. That was the ONLY hole. Sure enough a few days into my vacation my G/F calls me up telling me he's gone and after looking around she found his dried up body on the carpet in the very back.

Definately use caution with jumping fish.
