CALLING ALL AIR ICE WATER and RO/DI USERS!!!
How much output do you get using the Typhoon III Five stage 75gpd model? I want to invest in something worth the money. It'll cost me near 250 bucks. Thanks
I mean i want to invest in kent or spectrapure. But some tell me not to invest in something so pricey, but I have 150 gallon tank, so i would want at least 120 gallons in one day. I hear filterdirect only outputs like 44 gpd rather than the 110 gpd it advertises.
Please help! Does anyone actually the right gallons per day ratio as advertised in these units? I know it depends on the pressure but I'd like to hear opinions before making this pricey investment.
Thanks!

I have a AWI T3 5-stage RO/DI. Normally I will turn it on in the evening around 9 or 10pm ... and my 32 gal Rubbermaid for water is full at 6am when I go to turn it off.
So I get about `spec' out of it. Have good pressure, gauge normally reads 75 no problem. Ran slower in mid-winter with the mighty cold water here ... but still easily 50-60 gal a day.
I like mine. Biggest thing to consider is to weight the output by the rejection rate. Most places use the exact same RO cartridge/filter ... I think Dow [?]. Anyway ... the 75 gpd one runs 98% rejection, the 100 gpd runs at 95% rejection [meaning running 100 gpd you either end up with more TDS or you go thru DI cartridges a lot faster. Thus I'd aim for the 75 gpd.
Personally, I just don't think I'd replace the water on my tank [more than a day's worth of RO/DI] for any reason ... so beyond another day filling it, the first time ... no big difference IMO.
Anyway, like my AWI unit.

To add on what Mark said, check your water supply pressure.
I live in a building where there is a hydropneumatic system that can´t hold up pressure at all times (swings between 40-60 psi, being on the low end most of the time) so I never expect to get more than 60% of what the membrane is supposed to deliver (100 gpd). You may need a booster pump to get your membrane to give you all the gpd´s you expect. Then the price will be a lot higher.
Oh, your initial (tap water) TDS reading (total dissolved solids) can affect your membrane´s ability to deliver certain amount of gpd´s too. Mine is 130 ppm. If your readings are a lot lower (say 65 ppms) for example, with the same pressure as mine you´ll certainly get more water than I do.

I think most ro systems are rated at something like 65 or 70 psi. The minimum recommended pressure is 40psi and I think I read that you don't want to go much over 80 or 85psi but I don't really remember why. Water temp also has a lot to do with it. The colder the water the less efficient the system is. Again if I remember right they are typically rated at 70 degrees F or around there.

I bought one about 7 months ago, but I had them put a second 75gpd RO unit on it. It makes a lot of water, but I'm not sure how much.
If I understand correctly, you can only expect about half of the rated value for the membrane. So my setup probably does 75gpd. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

I have one of his systems and I love it. We have good water pressure and I can get 75 gallons a day in the summer and probably about 65 in the winter. Less water will be produced if your using really cold water. Do not use hot water as this will damage the RO membrane.

One thing to think about also - aside from the inital fill, I can't think of a time when I made more than 30 or so gallons at once. I have my Typhoon hooked to a large trashcan, so I have about 40 gal at the ready.

I don't own one, but I have never heard of anyone complaining about their products. I think you would be happy with it.
