I have a Milwaukee pH controller that I purchased with the Ca Rx...I calibrated it with the stuff they sent, but I have been taking it out of the water a lot, which they stated you may need to recalibrate often if taking it out of the water frequently. I am going to re-calibrate it as well.

Tom, what is the borax test? Any links on how to perform? I am going to do this for sure since I am no longer moving the pH probe around.

I am guessing it has to be an error. I don't add any sodium carbonate supplements. I have the Calcium reacotor, calcium carbonate, and a kalk reactor, calcium hydroxide. I have not refilled the kalk in about a week to make sure that I am not accidentally overdosing the kalk.

Thanks a bunch Tom. I will get some new calibration fluids and pick up some borax at Target.

Off topic - I grew up on a farm and I believe we used to use a weak solution Boric Acid to clean out the animals eyes if they ever pussed heavily...sound right?

Done with the re-calibration...thanks for all the good info Tom. The meter was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. My tank is running about 8.1 pH after calibration and Borax test. The meter was reading 8.8 previously.

Just my 5 cents, I will do a borax test every two weeks to check accuracy of probe. This stuff is like $3 for 2 lbs and you use 1/2 teaspoon per calibration.

I let my pH satchets soak in aquarium water for 30 minutes prior to calibration because aquarium water is pegged at 77 degrees.

Let probe sit in satchet for 10 minutes at each calibration point, I stirred every 2-3 minutes and recommend this as well.

A very easy process...but very easy to screw up if not careful.
