Low mag can effect the balance, over time it could be quite a signifagant effect, but your mag level is just fine. When you got the reactor all setup did you have the Ca in the right place to start with?

Oh ya,.. Definitally. Go ahead and boost the CA back up,.. I'm just trying to figure out how this happened lol. You might want to turn the reactor up slightly once you have the CA back to normal and see if it maintains your levels then.

so... if your tank is stable when you add a reactor, it wont make it stable? it will just keep it consistent?

a reactor helps to stable things...I havent added anything but mag for 6 months or so....I have added alot of things lately including 3 types of algae and alot of frags so that may have helped with the drop of calcium(although my ph is great) Oh well Its at 400ppm now. I just want to keep an eye on my alk...that is the #1 priority..

I'm confused. This question sounds contraditory.

It won't make it stable?
It'll just keep it consistent?

Isn't stable and consistent the same thing?

either way, yes...the idea behind a CA reactor is...it will maintain (keep consistent/stable) your Ca and Alk levels without any help from you (additives, etc).

When you fire the reactor up you want your levels to be in ballance and where you want them to stay. Reactors don't do a great job at raising things,.. and since they raise CA and ALK together if the CA is 300 and Alk is 11Dkh you really can't push CA up without sending Alk through the roof.

If you start where you want to stay and get it tuned in very little adjustment will be requried to keep it there, but some will be required to make up for coral growth and increased demand.
